Hannan Metals has launched a new diamond-drilling campaign at its Stavaträsk gold project in northern Sweden, targeting a geophysical anomaly measuring approximately 1,300 metres long and 180 metres wide. The programme will investigate whether gold-bearing structures identified in earlier drilling extend across a substantially larger area.
The company plans to complete approximately 1,000 metres of drilling across four holes, following an initial campaign of seven holes totalling around 1,040 metres. Previous drilling established gold mineralisation over approximately 650 metres of strike. Earlier results included 4.6 metres grading 7.2 g/t gold, including a higher-grade interval of 1.9 metres at 15.7 g/t. Another intersection returned 1.1 metres at 15.6 g/t gold, including 0.6 metres at 27.8 g/t.
Drilling to Test the 1.3-Kilometre Anomaly
The latest geophysical surveys identified the extensive chargeability anomaly, which provides a target for further exploration beyond the sections tested by the initial drilling campaign. Hannan intends to use the four-hole programme to investigate extensions of known mineralised structures and test previously undrilled portions of the anomaly. The work will assess whether the gold-bearing zones identified in earlier holes continue across a larger part of the target.
The geophysical results indicate variations in subsurface properties but do not independently establish gold grades, mineralised thickness or economic continuity. Further drilling is therefore required to determine whether the anomaly corresponds to a broader gold-mineralised system.
Location Within Sweden’s Skellefteå Mining District
Stavaträsk is located approximately 20 kilometres north of the historic Boliden mine in Sweden’s Skellefteå district. The project is situated within an established mining region with existing infrastructure and geological knowledge. The earlier high-grade intersections demonstrate gold mineralisation at the prospect, while the newly defined anomaly provides a larger exploration target. The current campaign is intended to establish whether those two elements coincide across a more extensive area.
Mineral Resource Definition Depends on Further Results
Stavaträsk does not yet have a compliant mineral-resource estimate, and the available drilling is insufficient to establish a resource. The new programme will test the continuity and distribution of mineralisation before the project can progress towards resource-definition work.
Repeated gold-bearing intersections across a wider area could support further evaluation of the deposit’s scale. Until drilling establishes the geometry, grades and continuity of the mineralised structures, the 1.3-kilometre chargeability anomaly remains an exploration target rather than evidence of a defined mineral resource.
