Beowulf drills Kallak North ahead of Swedish iron-ore prefeasibility study

Beowulf Mining has launched an infill drilling campaign at the Kallak iron-ore project in northern Sweden, focusing on shallow mineralisation in the Kallak North deposit that could form part of the early stages of a future open-pit mine. The initial programme covers seven holes totalling about 1,000 metres in the northern part of Kallak North. Beowulf and drilling contractor Norse Diamond Drilling could increase the campaign to approximately 1,500 metres, subject to completion of the company’s latest financing.

Drilling tests shallow magnetite mineralisation

The first hole, KAL26008, was extended from its planned 160-metre depth to 174 metres after portable X-ray fluorescence and magnetic-susceptibility readings indicated that magnetite mineralisation continued beyond the anticipated boundary.

The readings are preliminary field measurements and are not laboratory assays. They therefore cannot yet establish definitive iron grades or resource tonnage. The broader Kallak project has already been tested by more than 30,000 metres of drilling across 145 historical holes. More than 80% of the existing Kallak North resource is classified as Measured and Indicated, while several shallow northern blocks remain in the Inferred category because of wider drill spacing.

Infill programme supports early mine planning

The shallow northern blocks could influence the initial mining sequence because near-surface mineralisation is expected to be accessed during the early stages of an open-pit operation. Their classification could affect the initial stripping ratio, production profile, plant feed and revenue ramp-up. Converting the Inferred material into a higher-confidence resource category could therefore provide additional inputs for the planned pre-feasibility study and forthcoming resource update.

The current campaign is primarily an infill programme rather than conventional exploration aimed at expanding the deposit. Its results will depend on laboratory assays confirming grade continuity and whether the upgraded tonnes can be incorporated into an economically practical early mine sequence.
