Lithium extension and high-grade tin zone found at CTL’s Tregonning Project

Cornwall is strengthening its position as a strategic critical minerals centre following exploration updates from Cornish Tin & Lithium (CTL) at its Tregonning Project in southwest England. The company reported an expanded lithium-bearing system and a newly identified high-grade tin mineralisation zone. The results were linked to drilling activity aimed at improving the project’s understanding of both commodities.

Phase 3 drilling targets lithium-bearing aplite-pegmatite at Tregonning South

CTL’s Phase 3 drilling programme ran from September 2025 to January 2026. The campaign focused on lithium-rich aplite-pegmatite formations within the newly defined Tregonning South extension area. CTL said the drilling confirmed lithium mineralisation extends beyond previously known boundaries. The same campaign also identified a new tin system.

The company stated that the findings strengthen the long-term development potential of the project. CTL also positioned the results as reinforcing Cornwall’s role in Europe’s critical minerals sector. The update connects both lithium and tin discoveries to work undertaken during the Phase 3 period.

Newall Formation identified over 3.27 kilometres between Tregonning North and South

A key outcome of the drilling was identification of the Newall Formation, described as a newly recognised lithium-bearing geological structure. CTL said this formation extends beyond the original discovery area at Tregonning North. Previous drilling at Tregonning North returned lithium grades including 0.3 metres grading 1.33% Li2O. CTL also reported peak values reaching 1.42% Li2O.

Latest exploration data indicate the lithium-rich system now extends approximately 3.27 kilometres from Tregonning North to Tregonning South. CTL said multiple lithium-bearing horizons were intercepted at varying depths across the project area. The company indicated this geometry suggests the mineralised system may be larger than previously estimated.

Lithium demand drivers cited alongside European supply security goals

CTL’s update placed the Tregonning results within a broader context of rising global lithium demand. The company referenced expansion in electric vehicle manufacturing, battery energy storage systems, renewable energy infrastructure and advanced technology applications. It said European governments are seeking to secure domestic supplies of critical minerals.

Within that framework, projects such as Tregonning were described as relevant to reducing reliance on imported raw materials. The update did not provide additional supply-chain figures or policy details beyond this stated objective.

Tregonning South hosts ten lodes and sheeted vein network with tin grades

In addition to lithium, CTL reported a new tin mineralisation system across Tregonning South. The company said exploration has outlined ten mineralised lodes along with an associated sheeted vein network in that area. Several zones returned tin grades including 2.69% tin in the Norcross No.1 Lode. Other reported results included 1.26% tin in the Rib North Lode and 1.68% tin in the Rib South Lode.

CTL said these results indicate multiple high-grade tin-bearing structures within the district. The company linked the new tin mineralisation to expanded exploration coverage at Tregonning South during Phase 3 drilling.

Tin demand linked to electronics, semiconductors and renewable technologies

CTL described tin as increasingly important for applications beyond traditional solder and industrial uses. The company cited electronics manufacturing, semiconductor production, renewable energy technologies and advanced industrial systems as end-use areas for tin demand growth.

The update also noted renewed interest in historic mining regions such as Cornwall, which has a long-standing heritage as one of the world’s most important tin-producing areas. No additional production or reserve figures were provided in the release.

CTL cites combined lithium and tin potential; CEO comments on prior drilling coverage

According to CTL, the coexistence of lithium and tin mineralisation within the same mining district increases the project’s strategic value. The company said this combination could support UK and European supply-chain security initiatives while improving future project economics. CTL did not provide specific economic modelling inputs in its statement.

Sally Norcross-Webb, CEO of CTL, described the latest results as another milestone in the company’s exploration strategy. She said success at Tregonning South builds on previous discoveries at Wheal Vor and Tregonning North, and that Tregonning South had not previously been explored through systematic modern drilling.

Norcross-Webb added that combined development of CTL’s West Cornwall projects could deliver economic benefits to the region while strengthening critical mineral supply chains across the UK and Europe. She did not specify timelines or development studies in this update.

Cornwall positioned for future critical minerals development based on expanding results

CTL said demand for lithium, tin and other strategic raw materials continues to rise, with Cornwall increasingly viewed as part of Europe’s future mineral supply network. The company stated that drilling at Tregonning expands resource potential for both commodities discussed in its update.

CTL also said continued expansion of both lithium and high-grade tin discoveries is making the Tregonning Project one of the most promising critical minerals developments in the United Kingdom, based on its reported findings from Phase 3 drilling.
