Cornish Metals Advances South Crofty Construction and Secures Major Financing Support

Cornish Metals has advanced construction and development activities at the South Crofty tin project in Cornwall, moving the fully permitted operation further toward production as engineering, mine dewatering and project financing continue to progress.

The company reported completion of surface civil works at the Roskear site, while construction of the winder house is underway. Front-end engineering design for the processing plant has been completed, and detailed engineering work is in progress in partnership with Ausenco.

Underground development milestones have also been reached. Excavation for the pre-concentration facility is approximately 50% complete, and mine dewatering operations have progressed through the 195-level pump station for the first time in more than 28 years.

Engineering and Mine Development Progress

The South Crofty project is wholly owned by Cornish Metals and holds all required permits for development. Current site activities are focused on advancing infrastructure and preparing the operation for subsequent phases of construction. The project is transitioning from site preparation and engineering work toward future installation, commissioning and mine ramp-up activities.

Mine dewatering remains a key component of development, with progress through the historic 195-level pump station marking a significant operational milestone in reopening the former tin mine.

Financing Package Supports Project Development

Project funding has strengthened through the completion of a US$210 million bond financing package, which the company said attracted strong investor demand.

In addition, the U.S. Export-Import Bank has issued a letter of interest indicating potential support of up to US$225 million for project development.

According to the project’s preliminary economic assessment, South Crofty is expected to operate for approximately 14 years. Average annual tin production is projected at about 4,700 tonnes, with peak production of roughly 5,000 tonnes anticipated during the fourth year of operations.

Tin Market Fundamentals

The company stated that spot tin prices of approximately US$53,000 per tonne support project economics. At those price levels, South Crofty is estimated to generate a net present value (NPV6%) of around £500 million. Tin remains an important material for solder and electronics applications, linking demand to semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence hardware and defence-related supply chains.

Global tin supply is concentrated in a limited number of jurisdictions, increasing the strategic significance of a permitted tin development in the United Kingdom.

Potential European Tin Production Hub

Cornish Metals has indicated that South Crofty could become the first primary tin producer in Europe or North America. As development advances, key indicators for the project include continued dewatering progress, underground mine development, construction of the processing plant and the timing of a final investment decision.

With permitting in place, engineering advancing and financing support secured, the Cornwall project is progressing through the construction and development phase of its planned tin mining operation.
