EVelution Energy has launched construction of a 28 MW solar power facility in Yuma County, Arizona, marking the start of infrastructure development designed to supply electricity to its planned cobalt metal and cobalt sulfate processing operations. The company has begun work by installing permanent steel mounting piles across a 150-acre site, while construction of the full solar array is scheduled to continue throughout 2026 and into 2027.
The renewable energy installation is being developed as part of the broader industrial infrastructure supporting the company’s planned critical minerals processing complex. The project combines on-site solar generation with battery energy storage to provide power for future refining operations.
Processing Capacity Targets Domestic Cobalt Supply
According to EVelution Energy, the planned Yuma County processing facility is designed to handle approximately 24,000 metric tonnes of cobalt hydroxide feedstock each year. The operation is expected to produce up to 20,000 tonnes annually of EV battery-grade cobalt sulfate, containing around 4,000 tonnes of cobalt, together with as much as 3,000 tonnes per year of alloy-grade cobalt metal. The company estimates that the planned production capacity could meet approximately 40% of projected U.S. cobalt demand, positioning the project as part of efforts to expand domestic critical minerals processing capacity.
Energy Infrastructure Integrated With Project Development
Development of the solar installation forms part of the wider execution plan for the processing project, which requires coordination across multiple workstreams. Alongside construction of the renewable power facility, project delivery includes completion of the processing plant, grid connection arrangements, battery storage systems, feedstock logistics, commissioning activities and customer qualification processes.
The project integrates power generation directly into the planned processing operation, combining renewable electricity and energy storage with cobalt refining infrastructure as development advances toward future production.
