Amigo Resources Advances Tanzanian Gold Plant Expansion to 600 Tonnes per Day

Amigo Resources is advancing the expansion of its gold-processing operations in Tanzania, targeting a combined capacity of approximately 600 tonnes per day across its Mojimoto and Kabete projects as new equipment arrives ahead of planned commissioning in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The London-listed company plans to establish processing capacity of around 300 tonnes per day at each site. The expanded facilities are designed to process both newly mined material and historical tailings, incorporating crushing, grinding, gravity concentration and secondary leaching circuits. Amigo is targeting the start of commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to successful commissioning and the receipt of outstanding regulatory approvals.

Processing Infrastructure and Metallurgical Development

The redesigned plants will combine several processing stages to recover gold from the available feed material. In addition to the gold-processing expansion, Amigo is assessing the potential to recover platinum-group metals (PGMs) alongside gold.

The company has mobilised smelting equipment to undertake initial work on a potential PGM-bearing copper matte. If metallurgical testing supports the concept, the material could provide an additional saleable product alongside gold. The PGM recovery initiative remains at an early technical stage and has not yet been established as a defined revenue source. Parts of the chemical-processing circuit also remain subject to outstanding environmental approvals, making regulatory clearance an additional requirement before the planned operations can proceed.

Mineral Resource Definition and Operational Requirements

The planned processing capacity is not yet supported by formally established mineral inventories. Neither Mojimoto nor Kabete currently has JORC-compliant mineral resources or reserves, preventing the projected throughput from being linked to a formally defined mine inventory. The absence of compliant resource and reserve estimates leaves uncertainty over the quantity of material available to sustain operations over an extended period. Establishing a sufficient resource base will therefore be important to supporting the planned processing infrastructure and defining the potential operating life of the projects. Operational performance will also depend on the consistency of feed material, gold recoveries, reagent consumption and the availability of sufficient material to keep both plants operating close to their planned capacity.

Commercial Commissioning and Production Targets

Amigo’s immediate operational objective is to establish stable gold production at both sites. Achieving the targeted 300 tonnes per day at Mojimoto and 300 tonnes per day at Kabete would bring the company’s combined processing capacity to approximately 600 tonnes per day. The transition to commercial operations remains dependent on commissioning and regulatory clearances. The company will also need to demonstrate sustainable metallurgical recoveries and reliable feed supply to support utilisation of the expanded facilities. The potential recovery of platinum-group metals could broaden the range of saleable products if further technical work confirms the viability of producing PGM-bearing copper matte. In parallel, defining sufficient mineral resources and reserves will be necessary to establish how the planned processing capacity can be supported over a longer mine life.
