Alkane Extends Björkdal Gold Mineralisation With High-Grade Drilling Results

Alkane Resources has reported further high-grade gold intersections from its producing Björkdal gold mine in Sweden, with drilling extending known mineralisation to the deepest recorded intersection within the mining area.

The ASX/TSX-listed Alkane Resources increased 3.66% to A$1.415 on 10 July, giving the company an estimated market capitalisation of approximately A$1.93 billion following the release of the exploration results. The latest drilling campaign has identified additional high-grade zones that could support future resource conversion and potential extensions to the operating mine plan.

Underground Drilling Expands Mineralised System

Results from the latest programme included several high-grade gold intersections, including 86.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 1.25 metres, 81.3 g/t gold over 4.40 metres, and 15.4 g/t gold over 4 metres. The drilling extended known mineralisation to approximately 762 metres below surface, representing the deepest recorded intersection within the Björkdal field. Alkane completed 29 drill holes totalling approximately 15,568 metres as part of the exploration programme.

Existing Resource Base Supports Mine Life Potential

The Björkdal gold mine contained approximately 1.99 million ounces of gold resources at the end of 2024. The current mine plan extends beyond 2035, and the latest drilling results are expected to contribute to potential resource conversion and future mine-life extensions through the use of existing underground infrastructure. The results highlight the role of near-mine exploration at operating assets, where additional high-grade mineralisation can be evaluated within established underground mining and processing systems.
