Osmond Resources Establishes 60 Million-Tonne Mineral Resource at Spain’s Orión Project

Osmond Resources has established a maiden 60 million-tonne mineral resource at its Orión project in southern Spain, identifying a potential European source of titanium, zircon, hafnium and rare earths.

The estimate covers the Main and Upper mineralised seams and records an average grade of 9.39% titanium dioxide (TiO₂). According to the company, the defined resource accounts for approximately 3.4% of the total project area, leaving room for potential expansion through additional drilling to establish the continuity of mineralisation. The announcement marks a resource-definition milestone rather than a decision to develop a mine. Orión has not reached the construction stage or a final investment decision, and no new financing from the European Union, European Investment Bank or Spanish government was announced.

Deposit contains multiple strategic mineral commodities

The Orión mineralisation includes rutile, zircon containing hafnium, and monazite hosting rare earths, giving the project exposure to several mineral commodities used in industrial and advanced-technology applications. Titanium feedstocks are widely used in pigment production, aerospace alloys and industrial applications. Hafnium has applications in high-temperature alloys, semiconductors and nuclear technologies, while the monazite component could provide additional rare earth value if subsequent metallurgical studies establish commercially viable recovery.

The potential to recover several products from one deposit could influence the project’s eventual economics. It also places Orión within Europe’s broader efforts to develop sources of critical raw materials and reduce dependence on imported supplies.

Scoping study and engineering work advance

Osmond is progressing a scoping study to evaluate potential mining and processing configurations for the Spanish project. The company has also worked with Spanish engineering group Técnicas Reunidas on downstream development, establishing an existing connection with European industrial expertise as the project advances beyond the initial exploration phase.

Further technical work will be needed to determine how the identified mineralisation could be extracted and processed. This includes additional drilling, metallurgical testing, process design and environmental studies, followed by the financing required to advance the project towards development.

Resource conversion remains the next development requirement

The maiden estimate establishes a defined geological scale for Orión, but further work is required to determine how much of the mineralisation can be converted into an economically recoverable reserve. The project has not yet secured a disclosed binding European offtake agreement or announced a construction package. Its progression towards development will depend on the results of technical studies and the ability to establish a financeable mining and processing operation.

The resource’s significance lies in the potential to produce titanium, zircon, hafnium and rare earths from a single Spanish project, with additional drilling and metallurgical work needed to establish the commercial potential of those mineral products.
