Mining Updates: Bathurst, Bougouni and Other Key Mining Operations

Mining companies in Canada, Mali, South Africa, the US and Bolivia have reported new financing, production and development developments across copper, lithium, PGMs and critical minerals.

Canadian Copper secures Bathurst financing

Canadian Copper closed a financing package of up to C$43.83 million with OR Royalties on 16 July for the Murray Brook copper-zinc-silver deposit and Caribou processing plant in New Brunswick. The package includes C$38.35 million in streaming finance and C$5.48 million in equity. Canadian Copper received C$12.5 million initially, while another C$31.5 million is conditional on permits, construction approval, contracts and full project funding.

OR Royalties will receive 20% of payable silver and gold, paying 20% of spot prices. Canadian Copper also has potential access to C$48 million from Ocean Partners UK and could raise another C$9.1 million through warrants. The company had C$17.3 million in cash at 30 April and registered Murray Brook’s environmental-impact assessment on 13 July.

Bougouni generates first debt repayment

Kodal Minerals’ Bougouni lithium project in Mali produced 26,174 dry tonnes of spodumene concentrate grading 5.34% lithium oxide in the quarter ended 30 June, taking first-half production to 53,195 tonnes. The operation mined 2.23 million tonnes, including 312,087 tonnes of ore grading 1.13% lithium oxide. Processing disruptions affected May output before operations improved in June.

A 20,400-tonne shipment reached China on 27 June at US$2,304 per dry tonne, generating an interim payment of US$34.4 million. A further 24,200 tonnes departed Côte d’Ivoire on 11 July. Project subsidiary Les Mines de Lithium de Bougouni made its first US$13 million repayment to Kodal Mining UK, using most of the proceeds to repay the Hainan Mining facility. A planned expansion could raise production to approximately 230,000 tonnes annually from 2028.

Valterra reports higher mine output

Valterra Platinum increased own-mined PGM production 13% to 525,700 ounces in the second quarter, with Amandelbult more than doubling output to 151,300 ounces after flooding affected the 2025 comparison period. Mogalakwena production fell 2% to 228,900 ounces, while purchased concentrate declined 18% to 249,700 ounces. Total metal-in-concentrate production rose only 1% to 775,400 ounces. Refined output increased 1% to 963,500 ounces, while sales fell 4% to 945,600 ounces. Valterra retained 2026 production guidance of 3.0 million–3.4 million ounces.

EMCO raises US$9.5 million

Electrified Materials Corporation (EMCO), majority-owned by American Resources Corporation, raised approximately US$9.5 million through 378,200 Series A convertible preferred shares priced at US$25 each. EMCO recycles magnets, batteries and ferrous-metal scrap to recover copper, aluminium, steel, rare-earth and battery materials, working with ReElement Technologies on critical-mineral separation. The securities can convert at the lower of 85% of a future IPO price or a valuation based on US$125 million fully diluted. No listing date has been announced.

Orvana prepares Don Mario restart

Orvana Minerals produced 10,833 gold-equivalent ounces in the June quarter, all from its Orovalle operation in Spain. Gold output reached 9,656 ounces, while copper and silver production totalled 643,000 pounds and 19,487 ounces. Orovalle remains on track for annual gold production of 34,000–37,000 ounces, although copper output fell 17% sequentially.

The Don Mario operation in Bolivia produced no metal because transport disruption delayed materials for the Oxides Stockpile Project. By July, the required supplies had arrived and the plant was ready to receive oxide feed. The project is supported by a US$25 million secured prepayment facility from Trafigura and related copper cathode and doré offtake agreements.
