With the largest nickel reserves globally, Indonesia is poised to meet the rising demand for lithium-ion batteries essential for electric mobility and energy storage solutions. The new battery ecosystem will be established across East Halmahera in North Maluku and West Java, targeting a production capacity of 20 GWh. The comprehensive investment of $6 billion will cover the complete nickel-to-battery value chain, which includes nickel extraction, smelting and refining, cathode precursor production, and battery cell manufacturing.
