Fathom Nickel starts Phase 2 drilling at Gochager Lake for nickel-copper-cobalt expansion

Fathom Nickel has launched its Phase 2 summer drilling campaign at the Gochager Lake Project in Saskatchewan, Canada. The program targets expansion of a nickel-coppercobalt mineralized zone identified earlier this year. The company expects the campaign to include between six and ten drill holes totaling approximately 3,000 metres.

The Phase 2 effort follows results from a winter drilling program that identified a previously unknown mineralized system near the historic Gochager Lake deposit. Fathom said the summer work is intended to extend evaluation of that new discovery. The company also linked the expanded drilling initiative to critical minerals used in battery technologies and electrification.

Phase 1 winter program identifies new mineralized zone

Fathom’s Phase 2 campaign comes after completion of a seven-hole, 2,143-metre Phase 1 winter drill program that ended in March 2026. One of the key outcomes was the discovery of a new nickel-copper-cobalt zone located about 500 metres east of the historic Gochager Lake deposit. The company reported that mineralization was intersected in drill hole GL26025.

The intersection in GL26025 is described as occurring within metasedimentary rocks. Fathom said this represents the first recorded occurrence of this style of nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization at the project. It also noted that historical exploration at Gochager Lake focused primarily on mineralization hosted within gabbroic rocks.

According to company management, the new finding indicates that surrounding metasedimentary units may host significant concentrations of battery metals. Fathom said the discovery defines a new geological target area that had previously received limited attention. Laboratory assay results from the winter program are expected to be released shortly.

Summer drilling plan includes BHEM targets and zone continuity testing

The summer campaign is designed to evaluate the newly discovered mineralized zone while testing additional high-priority targets generated during Phase 1 drilling. A stated objective is to better define the extent and continuity of mineralization intersected in hole GL26025. Fathom also plans to investigate multiple strong Borehole Electromagnetic (BHEM) anomalies identified during Phase 1.

The company said these conductive targets occur in both metasedimentary and gabbroic rock units. It added that they may represent additional nickel-copper-cobalt mineralized bodies. Fathom described electromagnetic survey anomalies as exploration indicators, particularly when searching for magmatic sulphide systems that can host nickel and associated metals.

If drilling confirms additional mineralization, Fathom said results could improve overall resource potential for the project. The company did not provide further figures beyond the planned drill-hole count and total metres for the summer program. The Phase 2 work is currently underway following the launch announcement.

Program funding confirmed and winter access trails used for added metres

Fathom Nickel confirmed that the entire approximately 3,000-metre summer campaign is fully funded. The company attributed expansion beyond initial planning to operational efficiencies achieved during winter exploration. It said these savings allowed management to increase drilling activity without increasing capital requirements.

Fathom reported that using seasonal winter access trails reduced logistical expenses sufficiently to add about 1,000 metres of additional drilling beyond the originally planned combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 scope. The company also indicated that assay results from Phase 1 are expected soon, which may provide additional detail on grade and significance.

Project portfolio includes Albert Lake, Gochager Lake and Friesen Lake

The Gochager Lake Project is one of three major exploration assets controlled by Fathom Nickel within Saskatchewan’s Trans-Hudson Corridor. The corridor is described by the company as a region known for hosting significant mineral deposits. Alongside Gochager Lake, Fathom controls the Albert Lake Project and the Friesen Lake Project.

The Albert Lake Project spans more than 90,000 hectares and hosts the historic Rottenstone Mine. The Gochager Lake Project covers over 33,000 hectares and contains the historic Gochager Lake deposit. The Friesen Lake Project encompasses more than 10,000 hectares in a highly prospective exploration district.

Portable Vanta XRF used for field geochemical screening under QA/QC

As part of its exploration activities, Fathom Nickel is using portable Vanta XRF Analyzer technology to collect real-time geochemical information from rock samples in the field. The handheld instrument provides rapid multi-element analysis during active drill programs. Fathom said it can identify concentrations of nickel, copper, cobalt, chromium, magnesium and other pathfinder elements.

The company stated that portable XRF results are intended as an exploration guide and do not replace certified laboratory assays. It emphasized that all exploration activities are conducted under strict Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures to support data reliability and consistency. No additional assay timing or analytical details were provided beyond expectations for winter results release shortly.

Battery metals demand cited alongside expanded drilling timing

Fathom linked the timing of its expanded drilling program to global demand for nickel, copper and cobalt used in energy technologies. It stated that nickel is used in high-performance electric vehicle batteries, while copper is used for power transmission, renewable energy infrastructure and advanced electronics. Cobalt is described as a component in many battery chemistries across transportation and energy storage sectors.

The company also referenced electrification initiatives by governments and industries as a driver for mining companies seeking new domestic sources of critical minerals. It said Canada has emerged as a destination for exploration investment due to its stable regulatory environment and abundant mineral resources focused on future battery metal supply chains.

The discovery at Gochager Lake of nickel-copper-cobalt mineralization beyond historically recognized host rocks was reported as broadening exploration potential at the project. With drilling underway and further assay results expected soon, monitoring of the summer program is expected to continue as part of ongoing evaluation efforts at Gochager Lake.
