Europe’s critical minerals exploration sector is advancing across multiple jurisdictions, with projects targeting lithium, uranium, antimony and polymetallic systems, while operating within an environment shaped by regulatory frameworks, permitting conditions and strategic supply objectives.
The European Union Critical Raw Materials Act establishes targets for strategic raw material supply by 2030, including at least 10% from domestic extraction, 40% from processing, 25% from recycling, and a maximum of 65% dependence on any single third country for a strategic raw material at any supply-chain stage. The legislation also seeks to streamline permitting processes for strategic projects while maintaining environmental and social requirements.

Exploration activity across Europe is increasingly evaluated not only on geological results but also on alignment with EU strategic objectives, permitting feasibility, community acceptance, and downstream processing availability.
Drill results are now assessed in the context of whether a commodity fits EU critical mineral priorities and whether development pathways can progress under national regulatory systems.
Irish Copper-Silver-Antimony System at Ballywire
Group Eleven Resources reported new assay results from hole 26-3552-57 at its PG West project in Ireland, within the Ballywire discovery.
Reported intersections include 6.6 metres grading 83 g/t silver, 1.60% copper and 0.19% antimony, as well as 2.8 metres grading 110 g/t silver, 5.09% copper and 0.44% antimony, including a subinterval of 0.6 metres grading 506 g/t silver, 23.60% copper and 2.04% antimony. The company stated that deeper copper-silver mineralization at Ballywire has now been intersected across multiple drill fences. Antimony forms part of the mineral assemblage alongside copper, silver, and lead-zinc components.
Cornish Tin and Lithium System at Tregonning
In the United Kingdom, Cornish Tin & Lithium reported results from Phase 3 drilling at its Tregonning project. The company confirmed that the lithium-bearing Newall Formation extends approximately 3.27 kilometres between Tregonning North and Tregonning South.
Earlier drilling included lithium grades of 0.3 metres at 1.33% Li₂O, with a peak result of 1.42% Li₂O. At Tregonning South, the company also identified a tin system comprising ten tin lodes, with tin grades reaching up to 2.69%.
Swedish Uranium Policy Shift at Häggån
Aura Energy reported regulatory changes affecting its Häggån project in Sweden, which hosts an estimated 800 million pounds of uranium. On June 11, 2026, the Swedish Parliament voted to amend the Nuclear Activities Act, removing uranium mining from classification as a nuclear facility. The change eliminates the requirement for explicit municipal consent and is expected to take effect on July 15, 2026. The company also referenced Sweden’s earlier removal of its uranium exploration and mining ban in January 2026.
Balkan Exploration Tenure at Viogor
Terra Balcanica secured a 49.06 square kilometre exploration licence for its Viogor project in Bosnia-Herzegovina, within the historic Srebrenica mining district. The licence covers lead-zinc-copper and associated precious and base metal targets, including Čumavići, Kiseli Potok, and Brežani. The permit is valid for three years, with the option for two additional two-year extensions, enabling up to seven years of continuous exploration tenure.
Lithium and Tantalum Drilling at Issia
Switch Metals, an AIM-listed company, commenced a maiden drilling program at its Issia project in Côte d’Ivoire, with approximately 2,500 metres planned across the Zraty and Kabore prospects.
At Zraty, surface sampling returned values of up to 1,230 ppm Ta₂O₅. At Kabore, exploration has defined a 1.3-kilometre lithium pathfinder anomaly, with spodumene mineralization reaching up to 2.8% Li₂O.
