Centaurus Advances Jaguar Nickel Project in Brazil with 20 MW Grid Access Agreement

Centaurus Metals has secured an initial 20 MW electricity allocation for its Jaguar nickel project in Brazil, establishing a key part of the infrastructure framework required to advance development. The agreement with Brazil’s national grid operator, ONS, comes as the company progresses negotiations for project debt, additional offtake contracts and strategic financing, including its existing commercial relationship with Switzerland-based Glencore.

The grid access arrangement, signed, covers use of Brazil’s 230-kV transmission network. Electricity is planned to reach Jaguar through a proposed 36-km transmission line, supporting the project’s planned development. Centaurus’ Brazilian subsidiary executed a Transmission System Use Contract with ONS to secure the initial allocation. The company has confirmed that the environmental and mining approvals and easements required for the transmission line are already in place.

Additional Authorisations Required for Grid Connection

Despite the agreement, further regulatory and contractual steps remain before all connection works can proceed. These include obtaining authorisation from Brazil’s electricity regulator, Aneel, for the connection facilities and executing a separate connection agreement. The transmission contract therefore establishes access to the national grid but does not constitute final approval for all grid infrastructure. It also does not represent a financing commitment or a final investment decision for Jaguar.

Securing electricity access reduces one of the project’s infrastructure uncertainties as Centaurus works toward a construction decision. Reliable power supply is an important component of developing a large-scale nickel operation, particularly as industrial consumers and mining companies increasingly consider the carbon intensity of future battery materials and stainless-steel supply.

Glencore Offtake Agreement Covers 20,000 Tonnes of Nickel Concentrate

Jaguar has an established commercial relationship with Glencore, through a binding five-year offtake agreement covering 20,000 tonnes of high-grade nickel concentrate annually. The contracted volume represents approximately 30% of the project’s planned output. The agreement provides Centaurus with a defined sales channel for a portion of future production and establishes a commercial foundation for negotiations with prospective project lenders.

The company is also holding advanced discussions concerning additional offtake arrangements and strategic financing. Negotiations for senior project debt are progressing alongside those talks, although no binding commitments have been announced for the prospective funding. No new lender commitment, strategic-equity investment amount or binding financing package was disclosed alongside the October 2 grid agreement. Centaurus must therefore secure committed capital to advance Jaguar from development into construction.

Project Financing Remains Outstanding

The combination of contracted nickel demand and a defined grid-access arrangement strengthens Jaguar’s development framework, but the project has not yet reached financial close. Centaurus is seeking to advance the project by converting discussions with potential lenders and strategic investors into a committed financing structure. The outstanding funding requirement remains separate from the infrastructure milestone achieved through the ONS contract.

Glencore’s involvement also provides Jaguar with a direct commercial connection to a major Swiss-based industrial and trading group. A Brazilian nickel sulphide operation supplying a European buyer could contribute to Western nickel supply for battery manufacturing, stainless steel and specialty alloys, providing an alternative source outside the dominant Indonesian nickel growth model.

Nickel sulphide deposits can also offer potential advantages for battery-material supply chains because they can support the production of higher-purity nickel products without relying on the same processing route used for many laterite deposits.

With the initial grid allocation secured and a five-year offtake contract already in place, Centaurus continues to pursue the debt and strategic investment required to fund Jaguar’s construction. The next major development milestone is financial close, when contracted demand and planned infrastructure can be supported by committed project capital.
