BYD’s Szeged EV Factory Faces Environmental Review Amid EU Expansion

BYD’s electric vehicle manufacturing project in Szeged, southern Hungary, has entered a new phase of scrutiny after the Chinese automaker rejected allegations that construction activities violated local environmental obligations.

The facility is one of Europe’s most closely watched Chinese industrial investments and is planned to become BYD’s first car manufacturing plant inside the European Union. The project is central to the company’s strategy of establishing a European production base as the bloc introduces measures affecting Chinese-made electric vehicles and seeks to expand local clean technology supply chains.
