Rockfire Resources has reported high-grade germanium, zinc and silver at its Molaoi project in southern Greece, supporting the preparation of a maiden germanium resource estimate.
Drill hole HMO-021 intersected 11 metres grading 5.0% zinc, 19 g/t silver and 8 g/t germanium. A narrower 0.34-metre interval returned 51.1% zinc, 222 g/t silver and 35.4 g/t germanium.
Existing Resource and Germanium Potential
Molaoi hosts a JORC-compliant Inferred Mineral Resource of approximately 15 million tonnes grading 7.26% zinc, 1.75% lead and 39.5 g/t silver, containing an estimated 1.09 million tonnes of zinc.
Rockfire is preparing its first germanium resource estimate. Further metallurgical testing will assess whether the metal can be recovered economically through flotation and additional processing.
Germanium is used in semiconductors, infrared optics, fibre-optic systems and defence applications, while global production and processing remain highly concentrated.
Further Drilling Planned
Rockfire plans additional drilling to upgrade parts of the resource from Inferred to Indicated classification. A new Epiroc drilling rig will support the ongoing programme. Preliminary observations from drill hole HMO-022 indicate further mineralisation, with laboratory results pending.
