80 Mile has started drilling at its Disko-Nuussuaq nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE project in West Greenland, beginning a campaign designed to test multiple magmatic massive-sulphide exploration targets identified across the licence area. The company, listed on AIM under 80M and Frankfurt under S5WA, confirmed that drill rigs have been installed, cemented and pressure-tested ahead of the exploration programme.
Each planned drill hole is designed to reach a maximum depth of 1,000 metres, subject to geological conditions and operational factors during drilling.
Seven massive-sulphide targets identified at Disko-Nuussuaq
The current exploration programme is focused on seven significant magmatic massive-sulphide targets identified at the Greenland project. The largest target currently interpreted measures approximately 5.9 kilometres by 1.1 kilometres, highlighting the scale of the geophysical and geological anomalies being tested through drilling. Surface exploration has produced high-grade nickel and copper results from historical and recent sampling.
Samples collected from the project area have returned grades averaging between 4.6% and 9.3% nickel and between 1.5% and 2.8% copper. A previously identified 28-tonne massive-sulphide boulder returned an assay result of 6.9% nickel, 3.7% copper, 0.6% cobalt and 2 grams per tonne of PGEs.
The drilling campaign is intended to determine whether these surface indicators are linked to a continuous mineralised system at depth.
Joint venture provides funding for exploration programme
The Disko-Nuussuaq drilling campaign is supported by a joint-venture structure with USFM Corporation, which is expected to fund US$30 million of drilling-related expenditure. Under the agreement, USFM is expected to contribute US$10 million during the 2026 drilling campaign.
The funding arrangement provides 80 Mile with access to exploration capital while reducing its immediate dependence on equity financing. The structure allows the company to advance drilling across targets that would require substantial funding for an AIM-listed exploration company to undertake independently.
Drilling results will determine project potential
The ongoing programme represents a key exploration stage for Disko-Nuussuaq, with future project evaluation dependent on results from drilling and laboratory analysis. While surface sampling and geophysical interpretations have identified large-scale targets with elevated nickel, copper, cobalt and PGE indicators, further work is required to establish the continuity, thickness and grade distribution of any potential underground mineralisation.
Core observations, downhole electromagnetic surveys and assay results will provide the next level of geological information from the project. The drilling campaign is expected to determine whether Disko-Nuussuaq can advance from a high-priority exploration target toward a more defined mineral discovery.
