KGL Resources Approves Jervois Copper Mine Construction Under €431 Million Financing Structure

KGL Resources has approved construction of its Jervois copper project in Australia’s Northern Territory, with planned annual production of approximately 30,000 tonnes of copper and first concentrate production targeted for the first half of 2028. The final investment decision moves the project into the construction phase, supported by an equity raising, existing cash reserves and a precious-metals streaming agreement with Wheaton Precious Metals. KGL expects an initial mine life of 10 years, with potential extensions dependent on further exploration.

The company reports that approximately 60% of total project costs are covered by executed contracts, following the signing of an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Sedgman for the processing plant and commitments to major equipment purchases.

Equity and Streaming Agreements Support Development

Jervois financing includes an approximately €186 million completed equity raising and a streaming agreement providing around €245 million in contractual upfront consideration, alongside access to a further €22 million contingent cost-overrun facility.

KGL had received approximately €28.5 million in upfront streaming payments. Although the company describes Jervois as fully funded through construction and production, approximately €217 million of the streaming consideration remains subject to construction-related conditions and staged disbursement. The final investment decision confirms approval to proceed with construction, but does not mean that all contractual financing has already been received.

Construction Contracts and Production Schedule

The processing plant contract with Sedgman and commitments to major equipment purchases underpin the project’s move towards development. First copper concentrate remains scheduled for the first half of 2028, with planned annual production of approximately 30,000 tonnes.

Jervois is expected to supply copper to international markets. However, no new European buyer, processing agreement or institutional funding connection has been confirmed, leaving its direct contribution to European supply chains unestablished.

European Copper Investment Landscape

Recent developments across the mining sector reflect different stages of investment and production. Atalaya Mining is expanding established European copper production and strengthening its internal liquidity, while Anglo Asian Mining is increasing concentrate output as Azerbaijan’s Demirli mine approaches steady-state production.

KGL’s decision represents a transition from project financing and development planning to approved construction, with remaining streaming payments subject to contractual conditions.

No additional confirmed European Investment Bank, EU Global Gateway or European member-state mine-construction financing was identified in the announcements.
