Euro Manganese Advances Chvaletice Tailings Project Toward Battery Material Production

Euro Manganese’s Chvaletice project in the Czech Republic is progressing as a battery-material development based on the reprocessing of historic manganese tailings rather than conventional mining of a new ore deposit.

The project is designed to recover manganese from legacy tailings and produce high-purity manganese products for battery applications. Recent economic studies, permitting milestones and strategic designations have advanced the project, although full development financing remains outstanding.

Tailings reprocessing model supports manganese development

The Chvaletice project is based on the treatment of historic manganese tailings generated from previous industrial activity. Instead of developing a traditional mine, Euro Manganese plans to recover manganese from existing waste material and convert it into battery-grade products.

The company’s development strategy focuses on producing high-purity manganese products for battery supply chains, positioning the project around mineral recovery and processing rather than new ore extraction.

Economic assessment outlines project value

In May 2026, Euro Manganese announced an updated preliminary economic assessment (PEA) for Chvaletice. The base-case study identified a post-tax NPV8% of US$492 million and a post-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 13.8%.

The company reported that the project has secured most required permits, completed its Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), and received Czech Strategic Deposit status as well as EU Strategic Project status under the Critical Raw Materials Act. A technical report filed in June 2026 provided additional details from the PEA. Euro Manganese submitted NI 43-101 and JORC reports and included an upside pricing scenario showing a post-tax NPV8% of US$798 million and a post-tax IRR of 16.9%. The company noted that the PEA remains preliminary, that no mineral reserves have been declared, and that the project does not yet have full committed funding for development.

Permitting programme advances toward final approvals

Chvaletice has progressed through several permitting stages during recent years. Euro Manganese reported receiving a construction permit for infrastructure relocation in May 2026, a land-planning permit for the processing plant in April 2026, and a construction permit for the technological bridge in March 2026.

Earlier milestones included a mining lease determination in January 2025 and completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in March 2024. The company plans to submit documentation for the Final Mining Operations Permit in the second half of 2026 and expects the final permit decision in 2027.

Financing remains the next development requirement

The project is positioned as a potential European source of high-purity manganese, a material used in battery manufacturing. Chvaletice’s location in the Czech Republic, an EU manufacturing base and NATO member, supports its strategic positioning within regional supply-chain development.

Euro Manganese has identified financing as a key remaining requirement. While the PEA demonstrates positive economic results, the project still requires engineering completion, customer agreements and capital commitments. The company has stated that it currently does not have committed funding for full project development, leaving financing, offtake arrangements and strategic partnerships as the next stages before construction and production.
