Luxembourg-based OCSiAl has inaugurated a new production facility for single-wall carbon nanotubes in Serbia, boasting an impressive annual production capacity of 3,000 tons. This new plant is set to play a crucial role in ProLogium’s ambitious gigafactory project in Dunkirk, France, which aims to commence mass production of batteries by early 2027, following its expected completion by the end of 2026.
Enhancing lithium ceramic batteries
The collaboration between OCSiAl and ProLogium will significantly enhance lithium ceramic batteries by integrating carbon nanotubes into the electrodes. This integration aims to boost efficiency and performance by forming permanent connections between electrode particles, which in turn reduces resistance and increases the energy density of the cells. As a result, the batteries become more cost-effective while also meeting stricter safety and performance standards.
Future expansion plans
In addition to the Serbian facility, OCSiAl has plans to establish another production plant in Luxembourg by 2028. This expansion will further strengthen its partnership with ProLogium, supporting not only the Dunkirk gigafactory but also OCSiAl’s Paris-Saclay research center.
This strategic move underscores OCSiAl’s commitment to advancing battery technology and its dedication to facilitating the growth of next-generation energy solutions.
