Czech Government Labels Euro Manganese’s Chvaletice Project as Strategic Manganese Deposit

The Czech Government has officially recognized the Chvaletice manganese project developed by Euro Manganese as a strategic deposit, highlighting the material’s critical importance for national industry and energy security. This designation, made under recent amendments to the Czech Mining Act, is set to streamline permitting processes and accelerate project development.

Strategic Recognition for Critical Materials

Manganese is a vital raw material for industrial applications, the energy transition, and secure supply chains. By classifying Chvaletice as a strategic deposit, the Czech Government underscores the metal’s role in supporting both economic growth and sustainable development.

The designation enhances regulatory predictability and enables faster approvals, including access to special legislative procedures that can reduce bureaucratic obstacles and limit opposition from certain institutions or civil groups. It also opens the door to state investment incentives, such as potential grants, further supporting the project’s timely progression.

Project Milestones and Impact

Euro Manganese’s interim CEO, Martina Blahova, described the recognition as a pivotal moment:
“Being classified as a Strategic Deposit is a major milestone for Euro Manganese. It reflects the critical role of the Chvaletice project in establishing sustainable local supply chains for essential raw materials. This designation is a key catalyst for our development timeline and validates the team’s commitment to advancing the project responsibly.”

The project has already made significant progress toward full permitting. Approval for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment was granted by the Czech Ministry of Environment, and the Determination of Mining Lease permit followed shortly thereafter. These approvals mark critical steps toward operational readiness and demonstrate the project’s alignment with both regulatory standards and sustainable development objectives.

Strengthening Europe’s Raw Material Security

The strategic designation of Chvaletice positions the Czech Republic as a leader in securing domestic sources of critical minerals for industry and the green economy. By reducing permitting uncertainty and providing a clear framework for development, this recognition supports Europe’s broader goal of creating resilient, sustainable supply chains for key raw materials.

The Chvaletice manganese project exemplifies how responsible resource development, aligned with environmental and social governance, can reinforce national and European objectives while advancing the global transition to cleaner technologies.
