Galantas Gold has postponed a preliminary economic assessment of its Indiana gold-copper project in Chile while it investigates newly identified mineralised structures beyond the boundaries of the existing resource model.
The London-listed company has completed approximately 5,960 metres of a planned 12,500-metre drilling programme. Recent intersections have returned high gold-equivalent grades and copper mineralisation, prompting further exploration before the company finalises its mine planning and economic assumptions.
One drill intersection measured 1.48 metres grading 11.84 grams per tonne gold equivalent, comprising 10.3 g/t gold and 1.4% copper. Another returned 1.7 metres grading 7.74 g/t gold equivalent, including 5.2% copper. Several intersections occur outside the mineralised zones incorporated into the current resource estimate. Further drilling and geological modelling will be required before these discoveries can be considered for inclusion in a compliant mineral resource.
Additional drilling to define mineralised zones
Galantas is continuing underground exploration to establish the extent and geometry of the newly identified structures. The company is assessing whether the additional mineralisation could support a larger development concept before completing the economic assessment. The timing of economic studies depends on the level of confidence in the geological model. Advancing mine planning before the resource geometry is sufficiently understood could constrain the eventual mine design, while additional drilling may provide a stronger basis for evaluating the project’s development potential.
Mineralised material generated during underground development is expected to be processed through the company’s leased plant in Copiapó, providing further metallurgical information as exploration continues.
The preliminary economic assessment has been postponed rather than completed. Newly identified mineralised zones must undergo additional drilling and geological modelling before they can be incorporated into the resource estimate.
Project development and financing status
The announcement concerns geological evaluation and project design rather than a financing or construction milestone. Galantas disclosed no new construction loan, project equity package, binding offtake agreement or final investment decision.
The project’s next significant development milestone will depend on whether the ongoing drilling programme materially expands the resource and provides a basis for resuming economic studies around a potentially larger deposit. Indiana remains an exploration-led development rather than a construction-ready gold-copper mine.
Copper exposure and potential European relevance
Indiana’s European relevance is linked primarily to Galantas’ London listing and the project’s copper exposure. Copper is an important material for European electricity-grid expansion, renewable-energy investment and industrial electrification. Indiana has no dedicated European processing route or binding supply agreement. Any role in European copper supply chains therefore remains prospective rather than secured through contractual arrangements.
Chile is a major participant in global copper supply, and exploration success in established mining districts can attract strategic investment as the scale of a deposit becomes clearer. For Galantas, the immediate focus remains on determining whether further drilling can establish additional resources and support a revised economic assessment for the Indiana gold-copper project.
