Great Southern Copper Secures €2.36 Million for Especularita Drilling in Chile

Great Southern Copper, listed in London, has announced an equity placing of approximately €2.36 million to advance exploration at its Especularita copper-silver project in Chile, funding a drilling programme aimed at establishing the project’s first mineral resource.

The planned work includes around 5,000 metres of diamond drilling at the Mostaza and Monolith targets, alongside approximately 2,000 metres of reverse-circulation drilling along the Mostaza Fault. The company also intends to use part of the proceeds for metallurgical testing and other technical studies. The exploration programme is intended to determine whether the mineralisation can support a maiden resource estimate and provide a basis for a preliminary economic assessment.

Equity Placing and Funding Conditions

The placing represents approximately 15% of Great Southern Copper’s enlarged share capital. Investors have subscribed to the equity issue, but completion remains conditional on admission of the new shares to trading, which was expected. Until admission takes place, the transaction remains conditional corporate equity rather than fully settled funding. The proceeds are earmarked for exploration and technical work, not mine construction.

Especularita remains at an early stage of development. The project has no formal mineral resource estimate, feasibility study or development decision, and the planned drilling will test the scale and continuity of the identified targets.

Drilling Targets and Resource Definition

The programme will focus on Mostaza and Monolith through diamond drilling, with additional reverse-circulation drilling along the Mostaza Fault. Metallurgical test work and further technical studies are also planned as part of the effort to advance the project towards preliminary economic assessment. The results will determine whether the copper-silver mineralisation can support a maiden resource estimate. At this stage, the project’s advancement depends on exploration results rather than a mine-development or construction programme.

Copper Supply and European Capital Markets

Great Southern Copper’s European connection is primarily through its London listing and access to European capital markets. No binding European industrial offtake agreement, European Union financing or European Investment Bank support has been announced for Especularita.

Copper is an important input for electricity grids, renewable power generation, electric vehicles and industrial electrification. Europe remains highly dependent on imported mined copper supply, while Chile remains a major source of the metal. For Great Southern Copper, the capital raised is intended to establish whether Especularita can advance beyond its current exploration stage. The immediate objective is to use drilling and technical studies to define a resource that could underpin further economic assessment. The project remains in the resource-definition phase, with no mine construction commitment announced.
