Aclara Adds Three Rare Earths to Planned Louisiana Separation Facility

Aclara Resources has expanded the planned product portfolio of its US rare-earth separation facility, adding yttrium, gadolinium and samarium to a slate already covering neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), dysprosium and terbium. The development forms part of the company’s strategy to establish a Western rare-earth supply chain linked to German permanent-magnet producer VACUUMSCHMELZE.

The proposed Project Dynamo facility in Louisiana is being developed to process rare-earth materials associated with Aclara’s deposits in Brazil and Chile. The expanded range of separated products would extend the project’s potential supply into markets spanning permanent magnets, defence, electronics, energy and advanced industrial applications. Aclara is installing additional separation circuits at its demonstration plant at Virginia Tech, using feed material representative of its South American deposits.

Louisiana Project Advances Through Permitting and Engineering

Project Dynamo has secured its air permit, while basic engineering is approaching completion. Aclara is targeting groundbreaking in the first quarter of 2027, although construction remains explicitly conditional on securing financing. The project’s technical development has therefore progressed through permitting and engineering, but the planned construction schedule remains dependent on funding.

Aclara previously received a letter of interest from the US Export-Import Bank covering potential financing of up to approximately €666 million. The letter is non-binding and does not represent committed project debt.

German Magnet Partnership and Supply Chain Development

Aclara has also established a strategic alliance with Germany’s VACUUMSCHMELZE, intended to connect the company’s South American rare-earth resources with Western separation capacity and magnet manufacturing. VACUUMSCHMELZE is an established European permanent-magnet manufacturer. The proposed supply chain is intended to provide access to separated NdPr, dysprosium and terbium outside China, while the addition of yttrium, gadolinium and samarium would broaden the range of rare-earth products potentially available through the project. The strategic alliance remains non-binding. Aclara has reported progress in discussions with prospective customers, but no definitive offtake agreements have been signed.

Financing and Customer Commitments Remain Outstanding

The expanded product slate increases the range of rare earths targeted by Project Dynamo, while the company continues to advance engineering and permitting activities.

The proposed Louisiana facility still lacks binding construction debt and committed customer offtake agreements. The potential financing indicated by the US Export-Import Bank remains non-binding, and the alliance with VACUUMSCHMELZE has not created a binding commitment to purchase the planned output. Aclara’s development strategy links its Brazilian and Chilean resources with US-based separation and German-linked magnet manufacturing, while the project’s move into construction remains subject to financing.
