Bulgaria grants 15-year extension to Gorubso-Madan for Petrovitsa lead-zinc mining

Bulgaria’s caretaker government announced on Wednesday that it has approved a 15-year extension of the concession contract with the local mining company Gorubso-Madan for the Petrovitsa lead and zinc deposit located in the Smolyan region. This decision follows a request from Gorubso-Madan to allow further extraction of the remaining metal ores within the concession area, according to a government statement released after its weekly meeting.

The concession, which involves the extraction of lead and zinc ores, was initially granted in 2001. Gorubso-Madan operates as a subsidiary of the Bulgarian construction company Minstroy Holding. The extension ensures continued mining activities and resource utilization at the Petrovitsa site, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting the mining industry and sustaining local economic activities in the region.
